After starting his musical education on the violin, Jasper switched to the guitar at the relatively late age of fourteen. Despite being self taught, he never looked back and after years of intense playing he turned professional in 1988. Jasper has now run a successful teaching practice in Norfolk for over 15 years. In this time he has conducted workshops and given lectures and seminars at schools and colleges as well as being an international examiner for the London College of Music.

In 1995 Jasper was one of the first four recipients of the newly created teaching diploma in electric guitar playing.

As well as his long term commitment to teaching, Jasper’s great passion is for composing and performance. He has written and/or played on many sessions and jingles for radio and TV and performed countless gigs at venues throughout the UK.

These include Birmingham NEC, London’s Earls Court and a concert in front of HRH the Prince of Wales and Prime Minister Tony Blair at Hyde Park. Alongside this have been appearances on live broadcast as well as recorded terrestrial and satellite TV shows.

Two of Jasper’s compositions from his suite Five Pictures of Norfolk are currently part of the LCM exam syllabus for classical guitar.

Having enjoyed playing many different styles of music throughout his career, in recent years Jasper has decided to focus his live playing and composition in the jazz idiom. He currently performs regularly with the trio Destination Swing and guitar duo Pulling Strings as well as with his own quartet.
